A main duty of the Fire Department is to safeguard life and property from the hazards of fire. In a proactive attempt to ensure the safety of structures, the Winfield Fire Protection District conducts fire inspections of all commercial properties and all apartment buildings with three or more dwelling units.
The Fire Prevention Bureau consists of the Fire Marshal, who conducts plan review services and pre-construction and final occupancy site inspections, with routine fire inspections being conducted by on-duty personnel throughout the Winfield Fire Protection District.
If a fire code violation is found during inspection, an order of correction is issued to correct the problem and a re-inspection date is scheduled to guarantee compliance. The Fire Prevention Bureau maintains an inspection file for each business and apartment that is inspected.
